National Adoption Day

Though FYLaw’s adoption initiatives extend throughout the year, November is always a time to focus on the importance of adoption for children and families.

The Family and Youth Advocacy Clinic (FYAC) continues to have the wonderful opportunity to work with Franklin County Probate Court and Franklin County Children’s Services on cases for National Adoption Day, which took place this year on November 17, 2021. This day is set aside every year to coincide with National Adoption Month. This year, FYLaw Senior Attorney and Clinic Supervisor Jennifer Goldson represented two families who sought to finalize their adoptions of children out of the child welfare system. Under Professor Goldson’s supervision, FYAC students working in the clinic have the unique opportunity to work on these adoption cases from the initial filing of the adoption petition all the way to taking testimony at the final hearing. This year, both hearings were conducted virtually, which enabled the parties to have family from out of state take part in the hearing.
